ACJ received this email from the organisers of the Comic Art Workshop…
We’re heading off to Indonesia in late October and… erm… we’re in a bit of a pickle. We were counting on some funding that didn’t come through so for the next three weeks we’re running a crowd-funding campaign to make up the shortfall in our shoestring budget. (Editor’s note: looks like the target has already been met, but don’t let that put you off from supporting. There’s some great stuff to get for your $$!)
Do you think you could donate some money? You would be helping us cover the costs of bringing THESE GUYS to Indonesia to mentor us.
This is Sonny Liew from Singapore and Sarah Glidden from the US. Both have published New York Times bestsellers and are swaddled with awards and accolades. Sonny Liew just won three Eisners. Three!
If you support our campaign you’ll get a reward from one of these guys:
And, holey moley, you won’t believe these rewards. We’ve really worked hard to give you twenty or thirty delightful reasons to support our cause. I mean, we’ve got the usual swag. Of course.
But we’ve also got something really special. Each of our artists is offering a commission reward just for you. A few examples?
Sarah Glidden Will Paint Your House – Send Sarah a photo of your house and she will mail you a 7 inch by 7 inch watercolour painting of your home. Let her know if you’d also like a monster looming over the place. She can do that too!
Josh Santospirito Will Illustrate Your Love Letter – You pen a letter to someone you love and Josh Santospirito will illustrate it with the care and passion of a medieval monk illuminating a sacred manuscript. He will then send it on to the recipient in a handmade envelope scented with the second least expensive perfume from the pharmacy in Moonah, Tasmania.
Pat Grant Will Draw You Into His Next Book – Pat Grant will draw a picture of YOU into one of the crowd scenes in his upcoming graphic novel and then send you the page of original art in which you appear. The Grot is a story about teenaged con-artists in post-industrial Australia. It will be published by Top Shelf in the US, Ici Meme in France and Bao in Italy. Embed yourself in Pat Grant’s slimy dystopia for all time.
See what else we have to offer you in exchange for your generosity.
Thanks so much!
